Thankfully, in all but the very serious incidents the modern motorcar is a relatively secure shell for its passengers. However, research and experience in accident claims shows that a classical whiplash injury may have long lasting effects.

Even a mild impact may cause neck or back symptoms to wax and wane for several months and in some cases for several years. In a moderate to severe collision the medical prognosis is unlikely to be clear for at least a year and sometimes more. This can create a dilemma in trying to settle a claim.
